Company Information

FHI Plant Services Inc. has been working on-site at the Mohave Generating Station, operated by Southern California Edison, near Laughlin, Nevada since 1970. Originally contracted to haul and dispose of the bottom ash and flyash generated by the plant, FHI Plant Services contractual obligations have expanded to include on-site maintenance and general contracting work.

FHI Plant Services has become a significant employer in the Southern Nevada labor supply market, providing skilled craftsmen and laborers for Mohave Generating Station and other contractors working on station during overhauls, outages, construction and general repair projects.  With experience gained at Mohave Generating Station, FHI Plant Services Inc., has supplied work forces for Nevada Power at several of their Nevada locations and assisted with construction and repairs at Biogen Powerplant.

FHI Plant Services Inc. projects have ranged from repairing and building evaporation ponds to constructing concrete block and metal buildings, making major repairs to cooling towers and general contracting work.  In addition, FHI Plant Services Inc. has helped maintain Mohave's boilers and related components.

In performing their contractual obligations, FHI Plant Services Inc. utilizes a wide variety of equipment ranging from one ton pickup trucks to the 130 cubic yard Phillipi Hagenbuch Payhauler belly dump.

In 1985, FHI Plant Services Inc. purchased 900,000 tons of coal fines from Mohave Generating Station to fuel Biogen Power I.  To increase productivity, FHI Plant Services Inc expanded its coal load out facility into a pelletizing operation (one of only two such facilities in the nation able to pelletize coal).  The pelletizing operation turned more than 100,000 tons of coal fines per year into pellets which are used as fuel for Biogen Power I.

Today, FHI still participates in activities at Mohave, and have expanded operations to include boiler and mechanical construction and repair for Tucson Power and Electric, Clark County Water District, NP Energy, Arizona Public Service, Nevada Cogeneration Association, in addition to powerplant and refinery work for various entities in California.

MANAGEMENT

In 1965, FHI Plant Services Inc.'s President William "Bill" Strunk's first job with CTI was building cattle pens.  After a hitch in the Army, and some time in the family construction business, Bill returned to CTI and moved to the Laughlin, Nevada area to start FHI Plant Services, Inc. at the Mohave Generating Station.  FHI Plant Services Inc.  has grown under his supervision from a three-man, two-vehicle operation to over 85 permanent, and as many as 700 temporary employees.
